A device to assist the dorsal carrying of a backpack-type or satchel-type bag by an individual, such as a child or a teenager. The bag includes a pair of shoulder straps. The dorsal carry assist device includes a carrying sling to carry the bag and a retaining sling. The carrying sling clasps a portion of the bag and the hips of the individual, without clasping the bag entirely.
